NAV 2013 RTM Column Adjustment and Customization

Learning how to adjust and customize columns in NAV 2013 RTM will give you a better user interface (UI) that is easier and faster to work with. In this blog entry, I will show you how to adjust column height and width, how to show and hide columns and how to add a freeze pane. In this demo, I will demonstrate using Chart of Accounts page.

1. Adjust Column Width:

  • Move the cursor between columns until it looks like a bidirectional arrow and drag it to the left or right to adjust the width of column on the left:

  • Before adjustment:

  • After adjustment:

2. Adjust Column Height

  • Right click on the column header and select Choose Header Height and then click on 2 or 3 as desired:

  • Before Adjustment:

  • After Adjustment:

  • To apply changes to all lists, right-click on the column header, select Choose Column Height and then click on Apply to All Lists.

  • Click on Yes in the following message box:

3. Hide/Show Column(s)

  • Right-click on column header and then select Choose Columns…

  • In the Customize Chart of Accounts window, to add a column, select a column from the Available columns list and then click on Add >>:

  • The column added will now appear in the bottom of the Show columns in this order list on the right:

  • Click OK to save the changes and the column will now show on the page

4. Change Column Order

  • The columns will display from left to right in the order of the Show columns in this order list. To move a column to the left of the page, you need to move it up in the list and vice versa
  • Select a column and then click Move up once or multiple times until it’s at the desired position:

  • For example, the Balance at Date column now will appear as the second column on the page:

  • Click OK to save the changes and the column will now show with updated order settings:

5. Add a Freeze Pane

  • To freeze the left column(s) to always show, right-click on the column header and select Choose Columns:

  • Select a column listed in the Show columns in this order list which you would like to add freeze pane to include that column and all the columns before it and then click the Add Freeze Pane button:

  • A Freeze Pane line will appear in the list:

  • Click OK to save the changes. The Chart of Accounts page now has a freeze pane:

Congratulations! You have just learned how to adjust column width and height, show/hide columns and add a freeze pane on a Dynamics NAV 2013 list page. An additional benefit of column adjustment and customization is that it helps user when printing a NAV page, because what you see is what you print. Here’s a screenshot of how to print a NAV page if you haven’t discovered the function yet:
